| The College Music Society will hold its forty-ninth national conference in San Antonio, Texas, September 14–17, 2006, in conjunction with conferences of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction, Pi Kappa Lambda, and the Society of Composers, Inc. The ATMI, CMS, and PKL conferences will be held in the Crowne Plaza Riverwalk Hotel. In addition, nearby Travis Park United Methodist Church has been secured for lecture-recitals and performances. The church offers excellent acoustics, a 1985 three-manual Hellmuth Wolff organ, and a new Steinway D grand piano. |
The Program Committee, chaired by Charles Boyer, has selected a broad range of topics of wide appeal to all facets of music in higher education. Special sessions will be offered on building bridges between music theory and other disciplines, such as pedagogy, research, and performance, as well as presentations featuring Contemporary American Music and the music of Mozart and of Latin America.
The conference hotel is located on San Antonio’s famous
Riverwalk. The Riverwalk winds and loops under bridges as
parallel sidewalks on either side of the San Antonio River, one
story below street-level. Attractively landscaped with huge
oak trees and fountains, it is lined with restaurants and shops,
and provides a network of walkways linking several major
attractions.
The Crowne Plaza Riverwalk Hotel will provide modern
conference facilities and an attractive guestroom rate of $125.00
per night, single- through quadruple-occupancy. An outing for
Friday evening is planned, at the new Community Centre, which
is associated with nearby San Fernando Cathedral. Mexican-
American food and entertainment will be featured in this
beautiful, new indoor-outdoor facility. The Community Centre is
part of a $15,000,000 restoration project for the cathedral, now
celebrating its 275th anniversary.
With a location as great as San Antonio, this national
conference is sure to reward attendees with a host of
unforgettable experiences.
