WELCOME TO THE MUSIC IN GENERAL STUDIES RESOURCES
Remember the days when "Music in General Studies" used to be thought of as a loosely defined collection of "service courses?" You know, those courses that music units used primarily to build their numbers so that they could turn around and focus on the "real" work of their departments. Well, today, the academy seems to be taking general education and music's role in general studies much more seriously. Still, though, how many of us are really trained in the teaching of and development of MGS courses? The College Music Society has a number of resources to help, including MGS sessions at national and regional conferences, as well as the links below. If you are not currently a member of CMS, consider joining to access these resources. Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions, concerns, and suggestions. Some of the best resources we have are each other, and I am eager to help in any way I can to build connections and to facilitate discussion of successes, challenges, the development of innovative courses and new ways to address traditional courses to meet the needs of today's and tomorrow's college and university students.
